Guardian

Terms of use

Last updated 12 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Standard Consumer Software LLC (“we”, “us”) for the Guardian app and this website. By using Guardian you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

Guardian is not an emergency service. It cannot contact the police, fire brigade, ambulance or anyone else for you. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999.

1. Who can use Guardian

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, please use Guardian with a parent or guardian’s permission.

2. What Guardian shows, and its limits

Guardian shows incidents reported by public sources, as those sources report them. Reports can be late, incomplete, wrong or later withdrawn. We do not confirm incidents. Coverage varies by area, and Guardian does not show everything that happens. Do not rely on Guardian alone for decisions about your safety or anyone else’s.

3. Guardian Premium subscriptions

4. Using Guardian properly

Do not copy or scrape Guardian’s content on a large scale, reverse-engineer the app, interfere with the service or its security, or use it to harass, stalk or harm anyone, or to break the law.

5. Our rights and data sources

The app, its design and its software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it on your Apple devices.

Incident information comes from publicly available data and belongs to its sources. It includes public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, data from UK Power Networks under CC BY 4.0, and Transport for London data, powered by TfL Open Data.

6. Our responsibility

Guardian is provided “as is”. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for loss caused by delays, gaps or errors in the information shown, or by the service being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

7. Ending and changes

You can stop using Guardian at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms. We may update these terms, and when we do we will change the date above. Continuing to use Guardian means you accept the new terms.

8. Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Guardian or its content, and has no duty to provide support or maintenance for it. If Guardian fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; Apple has no other warranty duty for it. We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims about Guardian, including product liability, legal compliance and intellectual property claims. You confirm you are not in a country under a US government embargo and not on a US list of restricted parties. When you use Guardian you must follow the terms of any third-party services you use with it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and can enforce them against you.

9. Governing law

These terms, and any dispute about Guardian, are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, and the courts of Delaware have jurisdiction. If you use Guardian as a consumer, this does not take away the rights you have under the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there.
